Lecturer Behavioural Ecology Group

Séverine Kotrschal

I am a biologist with a broad interest in sociality, cognition, and animal welfare. In particular I aim for a better understanding of the interplay between key aspects of cognition and social interactions between animals, and I am interested in applying methods of cognitive research to improve animal welfare.

I am currently mainly working on social insects and on fish. Amongst others, my recent research topics include: - Behavioural defence mechanisms in varroa mite resistant honeybees.

- Small or large tanks, large or small groups; how different standard housing conditions affect the mental state of the guppy.

- Mate choice for cognition: Do females fall for clever males?
